Passers-by would have been surprised to see a horde of Vikings crossing Thurleigh Road to the village hall one wet November morning. They were, in fact, the children in year 3 and 4 who were about to experience Viking life for a day as part of this term’s history work.
The village hall was set up as a Viking long hall where the children were able to help to prepare a feast, handle Viking artefacts and weapons, play Viking games, hear their ancient tales and take part in a mock battle. All the children were attired in authentic Viking fashion and had a wonderful time. It was an unforgettable experience.
French
Our children are taught French using an exciting new language programme. This innovative learning material for young children is the result of a European research project involving child development and language specialists from across Europe. Dinocrocs material uses a narrative approach based on the adventures of two cartoon characters, Hocus and Lotus. It uses songs, drama and stories which are acted out in the classroom. Teacher and pupils wear special ‘magic’ t-shirts and enter a magic world together, where only French is spoken. We are very pleased with the results: our children are learning French quickly and enthusiastically.
