The children in Year 1 and 2 have been working on self portraits.

The children did pencil sketches using mirrors. They tried to ensure the correct positioning of eyes and nose by drawing a cross on their faces as can be seen in one of the pictures.

They then mixed correct skin colours and used oil pastels and aquarelles for the detail. They looked at the work of Michelangelo, Holbein and Van Dyck. We discussed light and shadow and detail in these paintings and the children tried to emulate these things in their own work.

History

Year 1 and 2 have been learning about the history of our school .

Our school was built in Victorian times.

There were only two rooms and no upstairs.

The desks were in long rows.

Children used ink pens for writing.
